A brief fictionalized account of the murder of a deputy sheriff in rural North Carolina on the Fourth of July in 1914 by a descendant of the family containing contemporary photographs and news clips.

A Death in Carolina eBook Scott Skipper

James Tomoney and James Shiver are drunk and celebrating the 4th of July in 1914. One of them has a gun. An altercation occurs and Deputy Sheriff Isaac Skipper was killed while attempting to arrest James Tomoney. James Tomoney was shot in return and later died in the hospital.

Basically, this was 14 pages of conversation between the two James' and then the men who went to arrest Tomoney.

Written the way it was spoken in 1914 by black Americans, it was hard to follow. Not really interesting unless your last name is Skipper.

The only positive thing I can say is that it is free on Amazon.

A Death in Carolina eBook Scott Skipper Reviews

A good short story always hits the spot on a rainy day. Add some history and you have it all.
Not at at all what I expected. Short story of a shooting. Nothing exciting as a story should be. Needed to be more of a story
Written in the slang speech of the colored folk and the southern white folk, it tells of a commotion on one July 4th and the results of that incident. Not Much to it.
I honestly don't remember if it was 1st person or what narration. Just that it was a great read.
I have never read such a short story...more like a snippet of a story. its well written but nothing . to review about
I can do without the N word, jokes about hanging black folks, & and apparently a good ole boy, white trash southern family.
This is a very brief story, only 14 pages, that illustrates the way things used to be. Most readers will not remember how accurate this little story is. Sometimes we need reminding of how much things have changed.

If you are fragile and easily offended, give this one a pass. If you choose to read it, then it's by your choice, so stuff your outrage. You can't change history with a rant, and the point is that history has changed itself.

To the author, that's some good writing.
